About the events
During this year’s Re:tradition – Jagiellonian Fair festival (August 21-23, 2026), children and their guardians will once again be welcomed to a unique space for intergenerational play. The Re:tradition Playground, in its new location (the garden of Dom na Podwalu), will be filled with traditional games and toys made by craftspeople, performances, family music workshops, as well as engaging tales and stories that will spark the imagination of young listeners.

Re:tradition Playground – traditional games and activities for children
This year, the Re:tradition Playground is moving to a new location – the events will take place in the garden of Dom na Podwalu, next to the Błonia (Podwale 15, entrance from the Błonia side). It’s a space where adults can reminisce about their childhood, while children can discover the incredible variety of traditional games and toys.
As every year during the Festival, there will also be a chance to bring wooden toys made by Jan Puk, a Lasowiak folk artist, to life, put together block puzzles featuring paintings by the renowned Lublin painter Stanisław Koguciuk, or try playing the Kashubian burczybas and devil’s fiddle made by Tadeusz Makowski. There will also be colourful horses, hens on ramps and carousels from Stryszawa and Pewel Wielka, places long renowned for their traditional toy-making. On top of that, there will be special tables for playing flea games, tracks for bottle-cap races, a mud kitchen, as well as rubber-band games and Lubartów pick-up sticks!

In addition to the toys and games that will fill the Playground, the space will also host events for the youngest visitors. Kapela Fedaków will introduce you to the world of traditional Silesian music, games and dances, while Agnieszka Kontny and Raz-dwa-trzyk Theatre will invite you to a performance in which the story unfolds through strings woven around the performer’s fingers. We will also see performances by Katarzyna Jackowska-Enemuo and Mateusz Szemraj, as well as the Kukaj Kukawko group.

Sit down with us at Po Farze Square and listen to stories told by Katarzyna Jackowska-Enemuo and Mateusz Szemraj. If anyone thinks that children used to be better behaved in the past, they are very much mistaken! We will tell you about such little tricksters and rascals – boys and girls – who not only laughed loudly and knew what they wanted, but could even outsmart the devil himself. We love them dearly, and you will love them too!

Morning at the movies
As part of the Re:tradition festival, we invite you to two film screenings. On Saturday, we will watch “The Children of Noisy Village” (1986), and on Sunday “More About the Children of Noisy Village” (1987) – film adaptations of one of Astrid Lindgren’s most popular books in Poland. Interestingly, the writer also co-authored the screenplays for the adaptations prepared by director Lasse Hallström, and both films were shot, among other locations, at her father’s family home.

Early, early in the morning, the little sun went bathing, lit up the garden of paradise, and brought joy to the whole world!
Long ago, our ancestors did not know that the Earth is the third planet in the Solar System, or that the Sun is a massive star around which the planets revolve, just as countless other planets orbit other suns. They did, however, recognize its influence on life. It was the Sun that gave light and warmth, sustaining plants, animals, and people.
And in Poland, over the centuries, unique musical traditions and customs blossomed like the most beautiful flowers in a sunlit garden. Together with their Friends and Muzykancka Kompania Dziecięca, Kaja and Janusz Prusinowski would like to share these traditions with you.

Exhibitions for all ages
Exhibition | “Woven Pixels” and retro games | Karolina Radulska and Atarynka.PL (POL)
We invite you to the exhibition “Woven Pixels” by Karolina Radulska, a folk artist from the Podlaskie region. The exhibition presents a series of six double-warp woven tapestries depicting visual interpretations of games such as Arkanoid, Tank, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros, Tetris, and Donkey Kong.
Karolina Radulska describes the exhibition:
The inspiration for creating this series was the growing phenomenon of so-called retrogaming – the return to games with simple, pixel-based graphics which, despite technological limitations, offered immense enjoyment and became permanently embedded in popular culture. As a weaver who has worked with double-warp weaving for many years, I treated these old games as a collection of contemporary aesthetic patterns, close to the geometric arrangements and rhythms characteristic of folk textiles.
The textiles were created as part of a scholarship awarded by the Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in the field of artistic activity.

Exhibition | Listen to the Echo | Kaja Prusinowska (POL)
We invite you to an exhibition of works by Kaja Prusinowska. Romuald Demidenko writes about the artist and her work:
The exhibition presents digitally processed images originally created as watercolours and ink-and-pencil drawings on paper, as well as works drawn with a stylus on a tablet. The expression and lightness of these works, achieved through the use of watercolours and the blurring of colour fields – including those displayed on a liquid crystal screen – lead me to call them “flowing images”. I am not entirely certain, however, whether this term fully captures their character.
Kaja Prusinowska creates covers for music albums and audio productions, as well as animations accompanying concerts and performances, including those created for the Muzykancka Kompania Dziecięca developed together with Janusz Prusinowski. Her images are usually characterised by vivid, intense colours strongly contrasting with their often dark backgrounds. They resemble ornaments or paper cut-outs. They primarily depict the more-than-human world: plants, birds, and other animals. They bring to mind illustrations from fairy tales and old stories, and thus also a childlike way of seeing the world. A source of inspiration for the artist can be found in childhood illustrations, book covers, and the mysterious worlds created by artists such as Jan Marcin Szancer or Tove Jansson.

About the Re:tradition – Jagiellonian Fair festival
Re:tradition is an extraordinary festival of traditional music and craftsmanship. During three August days and nights, Lublin transforms into the capital of living traditional culture.
The festival program offers a wide range of attractions for both children and adults. It provides a unique opportunity to meet master artisans who, each year, showcase their exceptional handmade creations. Traditional music is also a key element of the Re:tradition festival, presented both in its authentic form and through the interpretations of contemporary artists.
The festival also features evening dance parties with live music, workshops, exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and meetings. Younger visitors can enjoy the Re:tradition Playground, where traditional games and pastimes are brought back to life.
The festival allows visitors to hear, see, touch, and experience folk culture, which during this time completely fills the streets of Lublin’s Old Town.
