The Summer School of Tradition – Woodwork

About

The Summer School of Tradition offers specialised workshops for people who are interested in traditional crafts and folk art. These workshops are designed to provide comprehensive training and follow the principle of the  mentorship between a master and apprentice. This unique and direct form of learning is an effective way to support the transfer of traditions.

This year, the Summer School of Tradition will focus on traditional woodwork. Participants will be divided into five groups and will have the chance to learn about different types of wood and how to properly prepare it for processing. They will also have the opportunity to create their own wooden works of art, such as small furniture, traditional carving decorations, utensils, a horse-drawn cart, and folk woodcuts. Skilled folk artisans from various regions of Poland will be present to guide and supervise all activities. These workshops, which will span several days, aim to revive the knowledge and techniques of these forgotten crafts. Participants should be prepared to demonstrate patience and precision. We expect their final creations to be truly impressive.
