Karolina is a master of the double-warp technique. Born into a family steeped in weaving tradition, she grew up watching her grandmother, the renowned Aurelia Majewska, create intricate textiles. Aurelia’s collaborations with esteemed figures like Professor Eleonora Plutyńska and Barbara Hulanicka further ignited Karolina’s passion.

In 2013, under the tutelage of her equally accomplished mother-in-law, Danuta, Karolina mastered the double-warp method. As the youngest member of the Janów weaving centre, she is dedicated to preserving this ancestral craft.

Double-warp fabrics, a hallmark of Janów, are meticulously woven on wooden hand looms using natural woollen yarn. This unique technique involves two warps and two wefts, resulting in stunning, decorative rugs and tapestries. Blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics, these textiles have captivated audiences for generations. Experts trace the origins of Janów’s double-warp weaving back to the mid-19th century.

Karolina’s commitment to her craft extends beyond her workshop. Since 2014, she has been an active member of the Folk Artists’ Association, serving on the board of the Białystok branch. Her talent was recognised in 2023 when she was awarded the prestigious Podlasie laureate title in the “Jawor – at the sources of culture” competition.
