Beekeeping

POL,

Augustów

    • two young men holding meads and a golden egg
    • a bottle of mead.

Augustowska Miodosytnia was established out of a fascination with tree beekeeping. Its founders work in Fratrum Mellicidarum which continues tree beekeeping traditions in the Augustów Forest. Meads produced by Augustowska Miodosytnia use traditional recipes and ingredients sourced locally on the Polish-Lithuanian border. Along with meads, the stall will also sell other honey-based beverages including podpiwek or zbicień. Their trójniak mead has won the “Złote Jajo” award granted by the culinary magazine KUKBUK.

In 2016, tree beekeeping was inscribed on Poland’s Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage and in 2020 added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
