Augustinas Monkus makes decorative kraykas and woven belts. He comes from a family of weavers that goes back generations, so ever since he was little, he’s been taught the art of the trade by his mother, Vitalija Monkienė, and his grandmother, Leonija Malakauskienė. In fact, his whole family has been awarded by the city of Šiauliai for continuing the local Lithuanian traditions alive. In his works, Augustinas integrates patterns from many different regions of Lithuania, although the one in which he truly shines in, is the Samogitia style. He also creates his own designs. As for materials, he mainly uses linen and wool, which are then woven with specially designed looms.

Augustinas belongs to the Vilnius branch of the Lithuanian Folk Art Institute, and in 2017, he won a “Golden Wreath” contest, awarded to the best traditional Lithuanian craftsmen.
