Concert | GMM (POL)
About
Get ready for an electrifying journey into sound with the GMM trio! Their music echoes traditional Polish wedding tunes, drawing inspiration from the historical collections of ethnographer Oskar Kolberg. But this isn’t your average folk music—it’s a modern reimagining with an electrifying sound.
The trio, consisting of Michał Górczyński, Michał Marecki, and Patryk “TikTak” Matela, delves into the roots of the Mazovian tradition. They translate these classic melodies into the language of contemporary music, with Kolberg’s writings providing the foundation for their creative exploration.
Their Lublin concert will feature pieces from their debut album, Wesele (“The Wedding”). The record opens symbolic wedding gates in an unexpected way, blending the nostalgia of folklore with a contemporary avant-garde twist.
The band’s unique sound comes from its unconventional instrumentation:
- A contrabass clarinet provides deep, warm, and mysterious tones.
- A spinet introduces a touch of Baroque refinement, creating a pleasantly contrasting texture.
- Synthesizers and dynamic beatboxing add a modern, gritty edge, shifting from moments of stillness to dense rhythmic complexity.
The result is a characterful and surprising journey—rich in harmonies, full of wit, and offering plenty of space for personal reflection.
The album Wesele is available on CD, LP, and digital platforms like Bandcamp and Spotify.
