The Jagiellonian Fair | Old Town

This year, The Jagiellonian Fair, the festival’s crafts section, will last two days. On Saturday and Sunday, we will meet artists and craftspeople from several parts of Poland, as well as Lithuania, Ukraine, and Slovakia. This crafts expo will focus on traditional jewellery and ornaments.

The stalls will feature both Polish and Lithuanian amber jewellery, metal ornaments from the Baltic region, delicately woven “krajka” sashes and belts, leatherwork made by mountain masters, traditional caps like the gamerka, magierka, or maciejówka as well as Ukrainian beaded necklaces and wedding wreaths. Like every year, we will also see an abundance of traditional sculptures, woven items, Easter eggs, crepe paper flowers, pająki (traditional ornaments shaped like chandeliers), braidwork, plaited objects, and folk toys. Aside from the chance to see or buy unique works of art, the festival is also an opportunity to learn how much care and expertise goes into each piece.

Our invited artists will demonstrate how they make their pieces, while others will teach us how to practise a particular craft under their guidance.
