About
“To the fire, Lady, to the fire!” — people would call out in Masuria when the first Midsummer bonfires were lit on St. John’s Night. We know this thanks to 19th-century researchers. As part of the “Elementarz tradycji” series, we invite you to a family music workshop with Marta Urban-Burdalska, during which we will immerse ourselves in old customs connected with Midsummer Night.
Sobótka (the Midsummer) is a night when magic was believed to happen. People sang by the fire and jumped over it, floated wreaths on the water, and listened to the sound of flowing rivers. And voice and singing were the most important elements of it all.
During a summer family workshop, we will sing Midsummer songs about water, fire, and plants. We will learn their melodies and then create natural herbal incense, which participants will take home with them.
During the workshop:
- we will learn traditional songs and games connected with Sobótka and summer,
- we will create natural herbal incense from fresh herbs available in June, learning about their properties.
And along the way? We guarantee a good time.
No musical experience is required. The workshop is for everyone – for children who love singing, and for those who don’t yet know they do.
