Yulia Dunaeva’s artistic journey began in childhood, nurtured by a love of drawing. Limited by her hometown’s artistic resources, she sought out the renowned Petrykivka School of Art, immersing herself in traditional decorative painting. Her artistic exploration continued at Dnipro University, where she unexpectedly discovered a passion for torn paper collage. Today, her creative repertoire extends beyond torn paper collage to encompass ceramics, watercolour, collage, and textile art.
Nature is the heart of Dunaeva’s work. She draws inspiration from folk traditions, the natural world, and the realm of imagination. Yulia’s creatures, with their wings and claws, represent the predatory nature of the world. However, the intricate patterns and colors used in her art create a delicate and harmonious balance, making her works both intriguing and hypnotic. Her works harmonise traditional Ukrainian motifs with contemporary art movements, creating a unique aesthetic that is both primal and sophisticated. By infusing her creations with elements of abstraction, pop art, and even trash art, Dunaeva challenges conventional boundaries and fosters a deep connection to the natural world. creatures that are both predatory and alluring. Her art seamlessly blends traditional Ukrainian motifs with contemporary aesthetics, resulting in pieces that are simultaneously wild and refined. Through her work, Dunaeva challenges perceptions and fosters a deep appreciation for the environment.
