Embroidery and lacework
POL,
Gdańsk
Wanda, a skilled Kashubian embroiderer, began her artistic journey as a child, learning the craft from her mother. Over the years, she has honed her skills through courses led by renowned folk artists, including Irena Szczepańska, Danuta Niechwiatowicz, Wanda Mironkiewicz, Elżbieta Żuławska, and Barbara Rezmer.
Wanda’s intricate designs, executed with cotton threads on linen and metallic threads on velvet, are inspired by traditional Kashubian motifs.
At the upcoming festival, she will showcase a diverse collection of her work, featuring both classic embroidered tablecloths, napkins, aprons, and bonnets, as well as contemporary pieces like purses, ties, and bags. A dedicated member of the Kashubian-Pomeranian Association and the Women’s Rural Club in Chwaszczyno, Wanda is also actively involved in Folk Artists’ Association.
The Żukowo school of Kashubian embroidery was inscribed on Poland’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015.
