Olha is a multifaceted artist whose creativity spans various mediums. Renowned for her exquisite pysanky, or Ukrainian Easter eggs, she also excels in crafting motanka dolls, straw plaiting, and baking traditional gingerbread.

In the 1990s, she participated in field expeditions of the Archaeological Research Laboratory in Kyiv, studying the Trypillian culture, where she explored the Trypillian culture and discovered striking parallels between its ceramic decorations and pysanky motifs. This encounter ignited a lifelong passion for these intricate egg art forms.

Specialising in the pysanky styles of the Kyiv and right-bank Cherkasy regions, Olha has amassed a collection of dozens of both traditional and original batik designs. Using chicken, goose, and ostrich eggs as her canvases, she employs natural dyes to bring her creations to life. Each pysanka is a meticulously crafted microcosm, imbued with rich symbolism representing the sun, tree of life, earth, infinity, and other potent elements. These ancient motifs were believed to possess magical properties, offering protection, prosperity, and happiness.

Beyond her artistic practice, Olha is a dedicated educator and cultural ambassador. She operates her own pysanky workshop and has shared her expertise through numerous radio and television programs. Her talent extends beyond eggs; she also creates stunning straw art, including didukhs, dolls, angels, and birds, using homegrown rye straw. Olha’s commitment to preserving Ukrainian heritage is evident in her collaborations with the Ivan Honchar Museum and the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments.

“Ukrainian pysanka: tradition and art” was inscribed on Ukraine’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022.
