Odeta Bražėnienė first encountered the art of paper-cutting as a child during a visit to an elderly relative. She returned to the craft during her university years and has successfully practiced it for nearly four decades. Historically, these intricate white paper “curtains” decorated the interiors of Lithuanian homes, brightening the rooms and adding a festive atmosphere to the household.

Today, Odeta creates works based on the motifs and symbolism found throughout Lithuanian folk art. Her paper-cuttings often transcend purely decorative forms, becoming artistic narratives that tell ancient stories and illustrate scenes from traditional folk songs.

Beyond paper-cutting, Odeta is a versatile artist who decorates Easter eggs and creates both woodcuts and linocuts. She is a member of the Lithuanian Association of Folk Artists and an American guild representing international paper-cutters. Her mastery has been recognized with the prestigious “Golden Wreath” award, presented annually at the Lithuanian folk art exhibition and competition.
