Marta grew up immersed in the world of weaving and spinning. Her home was a tapestry of tradition, where she learned the craft from her great-aunt Julia and grandmothers Marysia and Nina.
“Grandmother Nina, in her family home in Rogacze, wove rugs that were the foundation of my knowledge,” Marta recalls. “She taught me everything from preparing the loom to sourcing the raw materials, like woollen yarn.”
With passion and skill, Marta carries on this cherished legacy. Weaving on antique looms, she breathes new life into traditional techniques by incorporating recycled materials. A collaborative spirit drives her work with the Podlasie Institute of Culture in Białystok, where she participates in numerous projects that celebrate folk crafts. Sharing her expertise, she conducts workshops for both young and old. Marta’s talent has been widely recognised, culminating in a first-place win at the “Tradition and Modernity – Weaving in the Bug and Krzna Valley” competition in Hrud.
Her workshop, established in 2022, produces custom-made rugs and intricate multi-warp fabrics. A harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary design characterizes her work. In 2023, Marta joined Folk Artists’ Association solidifying her position as a leading figure in the revival of traditional weaving.
