Barbara Wandzel creates beautiful decorations from crepe paper.

She has been practising this craft since childhood, inspired by her mother, the well-known folk artist Maria Grzegorek.

Maria learned the tradition from her own father and later passed it on to her children. Through this family tradition, Barbara carries on the knowledge of patterns and compositions preserved across generations.

Of all her creations, it is the name-day wreaths that stand out. A cherished tradition of the Żywiec region, these vibrant crepe paper wreaths were once made by young women as heartfelt gifts for their fiancés.

Barbara is a member of the Polish Folk Artists’ Association. In 2021, when her mother received the prestigious Oskar Kolberg Award “For Merit to Folk Culture,” Barbara was also recognised with a special distinction — the first of its kind in the award’s history — as an outstanding student nominated by her Master of Tradition.
