Aleksandra Ląd runs a family apiary “Pasieka Starowiejska”.

    As she puts it:

“It was over 40 years ago now when my dad really got into beekeeping. First, he went to school for beekeeping in Pszczela Wola, and when he finished, he went to Austria to work in said profession for many years. When he finally came back, he expanded his apiary to up to 500 beehives. His love and passions were so contagious that everyone eventually got invested – his wife, daughters, even sons-in-law or grandchildren! As the youngest daughter, of course, I followed my father’s footsteps. I did a weekend beekeeping course, and now I’m trying to juggle my job as an agricultural consultant with managing an apiary. That being said, it’s a family business from start to finish, so we shouldn’t forget about their help and input. It doesn’t matter if they were ‘born’ in the apiary, they always offer us their helping hands when we need it most.”

All the beehives are handmade locally by Wiesław Ląd in the Wielkopolskie Voivodship, and the apiary itself practices migratory beekeeping. The hives are moved around throughout the Lubelskie Voivodship and its surrounding areas, to ensure a wide variety of honey. Wiesław Ląd also belongs to the Lublin Beekeeping Association, where he is the chairman of the audit committee. He is also the head of the Bychawa Beekeepers’ Club in Lublin.

At the “Pasieka Starowiejska” stand, you’ll be able to buy wildflower and varietal honey, beeswax candles, and other beekeeping products such as propolis and handmade wooden candlesticks.
