Talk | Variation and flexibility in dance tradition – a dancer’s notes | The Summer School of Tradition | Grzegorz Ajdacki (POL) | 18+

About

Join Grzegorz Ajdacki — dancer, teacher, and long-time advocate of traditional dance — for a conversation that goes beyond steps and rhythms. Over the years, Grzegorz has not only honed his skills as a dancer, but also explored the broader cultural context of traditional dance and the changes it has undergone.

The discussion will begin with a look at some of the oldest dance traditions in Poland. We’ll explore why these traditions vary so widely between regions, and why some have survived while others have disappeared.

From there, the focus shifts to the diversity of dances in Greater Poland, with comparisons to the dances of Biskupizna. Using concrete examples, we’ll look at how dances evolve over time — and how different dancers might interpret the same steps in their own ways.

The session will end with a reflection on the essentials of learning traditional dance: what truly matters in the learning process, and what might be less important.
