Installation | Pająk mobile | Ewelina Kruszyńska
The pająk is an intricate geometric ornament resembling a chandelier, traditionally hung inside homes for special occasions. In recent years, similar installations have been displayed in Lublin to herald the arrival of one of the largest celebrations of traditional culture: the Re:tradition Festival.
This year’s installation is inspired by the humble sieve, a symbol deeply rooted in the heritage of the Lublin region, especially Biłgoraj. For centuries, local artisans meticulously crafted these essential tools, supplying not only their local communities but also far-flung corners of Europe.
Among the contemporary masters of this craft is Tadeusz Małysza from Bukowa. His artistry in making pinewood laths, the fundamental component of every sieve, keeps this traditional skill alive. Artist Ewelina Kruszyńska has breathed new life into Małysza’s creations, transforming them into a modern installation that graces Krakowska Gate.
