Exhibition | The Jerzy Bartmiński Ethnolinguistic Lab’s Tape Archive
The Jerzy Bartmiński Ethnolinguistic Lab’s Tape Archive houses over 1,800 media items—reel tapes, cassettes, and CDs—filled with folkloric treasures and dialect recordings primarily from the Lublin region and southeastern Poland.
This exhibition traces the Workshop’s journey at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, from its inception to the acquisition, processing, and ongoing utilization of its rich collection. Visitors will gain insights into the life of its founder, Professor Jerzy Bartmiński, and discover a selection of singers, bands, and folk musicians captured by Bartmiński and his team over the years.
As expected from a tape archive, sound is central to the experience. Visitors can explore both historical recordings and contemporary reinterpretations.
Exhibition curated by Anna Kaczan, PhD and Katarzyna Prorok, PhD, Jerzy Bartmiński Ethnolinguistic Workshop, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin.
