Dance night | Rällä (FIN); Żemerwa (POL); Wędrowna Orkiestra Gimplów (POL); Diabubu (POL)

About

The PoMore TanzOrkiestra concert will open Saturday’s dance night, setting the tone for an evening-long journey through diverse musical landscapes and traditions.

Our first stop is in the western reaches of Finland, with the group Rällä, whose repertoire draws on the rich heritage of the Oulu region along the Gulf of Bothnia. Expect to whirl to well-loved Finnish dances, including the schottis and the polska.

From there, we travel to Studziwody, home to the Żemerwa Folklore Studio. For over two decades, this group has gathered and revived the songs and dances of the Podlasie Belarusians, especially those from the present-day Bielsk, Hajnówka, and Siemiatycze counties. Their live band will lead us through pair dances, trios, and chain dances.

Next, the Wandering Gimpl Orchestra takes the stage. In 2024 and 2025, their brass-and-fiddle ensemble toured the towns and villages of eastern Lubelszczyzna. With their orange Autosan bus and nightly wooden dance floor, they became known for capturing the spirit of local ensembles such as the Bednarz Band from Nowa Wieś, groups from Dzierążnia and Majdan Górny, and the Kimak Band from Wola Gródecka.

We end the night in the Łowicz–Łęczyca borderlands and the Łódź region, where Diabubu keeps the tempo high with a three-row accordion, violin, and baraban (bass drum). Their set will brim with mazurkas, obereks, kujawiaks, kujons, kujawions, alongside polkas, tangos, foxtrots, and even Jewish melodies. Though they close the lineup, their performance will leave no room for slowing down—keeping dancers moving until the very last note.
