Concert | Żemerwa and Osoczniki (POL)
About
The repertoire of Żemerwa Folklore Studio of the Podlasie Belarusians, and its male vocal group Osoczniki, includes songs from old Podlasie Bohohlasniks (collections of religious hymns), Christmas carols, Wołoczebne songs (performed during Easter caroling), and lirnyk songs (once sung by wandering blind musicians known as lirnyks).
During the concert in the Dominican Basilica, each of these categories will be represented, including:
– Marian hymns (Preswiataja Diewo, and those dedicated to the icon of Our Lady of Puchły),
– Songs dedicated to major church feasts and saints (Saint Anne, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, Saint Basil the Great, Saint Paraskeva),
– Wołoczebne songs (Wielik swatyj nam dień nastau),
– and lirnyk ballads about Saint George and the parable of the rich man and Lazarus.
