Concert | PoMore TanzOrkiestra (POL/DEU)
About
The ensemble was founded in Western Pomerania in autumn 2018.
This unique project brings together Polish and German artists who, in their everyday work, explore the musical traditions of their home countries and regions: they play for dancing, teach, research, and perform traditional singing and instrumental music. Their activities include concerts, demonstrations, workshops, and community projects that help animate and co-create the cultural life of local communities.
The group’s dream is to revive traditional music from Pomerania in a broad historical and cultural context, spanning both sides of the Polish-German border.
The region’s difficult history is a source of inspiration for their collaboration. Their Polish and German ancestors experienced war and displacement; music and memory travelled with them, becoming a resource the group draws upon today.
They work with pre-war sources, archival materials, and notations from what is now Polish Western Pomerania and the German region of Vorpommern (Western Pomerania). They also explore melodies and songs brought to Pomerania by post-war settlers from various parts of Poland.
Drawing on the skills acquired from rural masters and tradition-bearers, they search for a shared interpretative language, exchanging knowledge and experience. Above all, they take great joy in telling stories through music.
