Orkiestra Podróżniacy emerged from a fusion of young brass musicians trained at the Piszczałka Foundation’s music centres in Zdziłowice and Goraj. Steeped in the rich tradition of Roztocze brass bands, the ensemble masterfully performs a repertoire of podróżniaki ride tunes, polkas, obereks, waltzes, and foxtrots in old-fashioned style. Mentorship from seasoned musicians in Zdziłowice and Goraj has honed their skills, despite the orchestra members’ relatively short musical journeys—less than a year and a half for each player. The orchestra’s instrument set includes clarinets, trumpets, alto and tenor saxhorns, trombone, alto saxophone, tuba, and baraban. Despite their youth, Podróżniacy have already captivated audiences at festivals like Fanfara in Hoszna Ordynacka and the Lublin Traditional Music Stage. Their energetic performances have also filled dance floors in their home region. The orchestra’s 2023 win at the Muzyczne Źródełko competition, organised by the Radio Centre for Folk Culture, is a testament to their talent and dedication.
