Magdalena Tejchma will lead concerts and dance parties at the Re:tradition Festival
Renowned ethnomusicologist, musician, and radio journalist Magdalena Tejchma will be taking the helm of concerts and dances at the upcoming Re:tradition Festival. Since 2015, she has served as a journalist for the Polish Radio Folk Culture Centre. She produces concerts and recordings, organises traditional and folk music competitions, and has served as a judge for similar events. Her work has also extended to collaborations with various festivals, institutions, and music projects, including the “Crossroads of Cultures,” “New Epiphanies,” and “Song of Our Roots” festivals.
Her passion for preserving and promoting musical heritage has led her to collaborate with esteemed organisations such as the National Library, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, and the “Muzyka Zakorzeniona” Foundation. She has also contributed to music projects and recordings, including Fanfara Awantura’s “Prawdziwie Polskie Techno,” Bastarda’s “Kołowrót,” and Wernyhora’s “Toloka.”
Tejchma’s radio programmes on Polish Radio 2, “Źródła” and “Nokturn,” have further solidified her reputation as a champion of Polish folk culture and world music. She is also a co-creator of the latest installments of Polskie Radio’s “Muzyka Źródeł” CD series.
Tejchma’s expertise extends beyond Polish folk music to encompass the rich musical traditions of Turkey, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. She conducted extensive field research in Turkey between 2008 and 2010 and regularly contributes to the music magazine “Ruch Muzyczny,” focusing on the preservation of oppressed musical traditions.
Tejchma was appointed chair of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) radio expert group for folk and traditional music in 2022. She is also a panelist for the Transglobal World Music Charts.
