Concert | Krajka (POL)

Childhood will be the central theme of Krajka’s Sunday concert at the Re:tradition – Jagiellonian Fair festival (August 21–23, Lublin). The band, renowned for reconstructing the singing traditions of the Polish–Ukrainian borderland, with a particular focus on the heritage of Nadsań, will perform at the Dominican Basilica.

During the concert, audiences will hear songs related to childhood and reflecting the place of children in traditional folk culture. The program will include ballads telling stories of the often difficult lives of children, as well as old songs and lullabies once sung to the youngest members of the community.

In creating their repertoire, the artists draw on archival field recordings, ethnographic research materials, and songs preserved within family traditions. Their work involves not only studying and recreating 19th-century records collected by ethnographer Oskar Kolberg, but above all learning directly from the oldest living female singers of the region.
