Dance Night | Orkiestra Dęta Zaburze (POL), agregandado & Skrzypkowie Dzielni (POL), Kapela Biskupianie (POL), Kapela Ozimkowicza (POL)

About

Friday evening, following the dance performance by Norway’s Kartellet troupe, prepare to hit the dance floor as it comes alive with an evening of vibrant traditional live music!

The night will feature a diverse lineup of Polish folk ensembles, each bringing their unique regional flavors and rich musical heritage.

The evening begins with Orkiestra Dęta Zaburze — a brass band whose history goes back nearly a hundred years. Deeply rooted in the Roztocze region, the band brings together experienced musicians and younger players drawn to the sounds of the past. Their set will include polkas, waltzes, foxtrots, tangos, and village dances like the oberek.

Next up is a special collaboration between two folk groups from Toruń: agregandado & Skrzypkowie Dzielni. Their set is a journey through the musical traditions of their regions, encompassing a rich variety of dances including kujawiaks, mazurkas, slow dances, polkas, and polonaises. You’ll hear influences from Kuyavia, Pałuki, Kurpie, and even Sweden, alongside tunes once played by river boatmen and rafters along Poland’s waterways.

The evening continues with Kapela Biskupianie, representing the culturally distinct Biskupizna region of Greater Poland. Named for its historical ties to the bishops of Poznań, this region has proudly preserved its unique customs, music, and folk dress for generations. The band, which regularly performs with the long-standing Biskupianie Folk Ensemble, will share their traditional melodies that are a staple at local community dances.

The evening closes with Kapela Ozimkowicza from Jarosław, performing tunes from the Przemyśl and Dynów foothills, as well as melodies from across eastern Poland and western Ukraine. True to rural tradition, their music is meant for dancing — with melodies repeated and woven into suites that give dancers space to fully lose themselves in the rhythm.
