Traditionally, this style involves using black silk thread on white or cream linen, utilizing the double-running stitch, commonly known as the Holbein stitch. While technically demanding, this method allows for the creation of incredibly intricate and delicate geometric patterns. In the Romanian region of Bukovina, where Darie is from, blackwork became highly popular during the first half of the 20th century. Darie has been practicing this craft for a decade, having learned the technique from a friend. Although this tradition was once vibrant within his own family, today he is one of only a few members of his local community who continue to keep the art of blackwork alive. \n<\/p>\n\n
