The Jagiellonian Fair is in little over two days! Let\u2019s meet between 21-23 August to celebrate the annual festival of traditional culture. Registration for most events is already closed, so today we would like to present those events that you can visit without registration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Crafts Fair<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, we will be able to meet about 100 artists from Poland who continue the traditions of their families and regions or find inspiration in them. As always, we will meet artisans who specialize in pottery, embroidery, lace, making instruments, folk painting, ritual art, plaiting, sculpture, weaving and making toys. The meeting with the artists is not just an opportunity to buy beautiful and carefully made items, but also to have interesting conversations with people with tremendous knowledge and skills. As always, we encourage closer contacts, although this time we especially remind you of safety Remember to keep a safe distance from other participants and disinfect your hands, which you will be able to do at the artists\u2019 stalls.

The Jagiellonian Fair Playground<\/strong><\/p>\n

Traditional games and activities for families. In this space adults will recall their childhood and children will discover the incredible variety of traditional games. Some toys are wooden and natural, others painted in traditional patterns, and through play they introduce you to the richness of traditional culture. The toys are much larger than those we play at home. Special tables for tiddlywinks, tracks for bottle cap games, rubber band games, traditional folk toys such as wooden toy birds with wheels on a stick (klepoki) or chicks on a ramp will absorb you during your stay in the Playground. This year, we will also get acquainted with the incredible collections of Obwo\u017ane Muzeum Bak\u00f3w (Mobile Bittern Toy Museum) and moving toys made by Jan Puk, a folk artist from Trze\u015bnia. Thanks to Jan Puka\u2019s toys, we will learn how cabbage used to be pressed, how wood was sawed and chopped, what it was like to work in a smithy or how grain was threshed.

SKENDE and IKEA\u2019s route of wonders: Discover and win!<\/strong><\/p>\n

SKENDE and IKEA’s special event. Do you remember playing memory as a child? This year\u2019s partner of the festival is bringing back those fond memories. They will use a large-format board with 40 small plates. In order to get SKENDE\u2019s gift cards, you need to pick as many matching icons as you can. You can also win a special prize to shop in Ikea Lublin. Just fill in a special card that you will get in the event zone, creatively answer the question and put it in a special box. Win awards!

\nFolk paj\u0105k | Installation<\/strong><\/p>\n

The installation has been accompanying The Jagiellonian Fair since 2015. Each year, it takes on a different form to refer to the main theme of the festival. This year, it\u2019s inspired by herbs. This paj\u0105k has been made by Ma\u0142gorzata and Tomasz Krajewski and Wies\u0142awa Kucharzyk, artists specialising in ritual art.

Life is beautiful (if you don\u2019t think about it for too long), Jaros\u0142aw Koziara<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jaros\u0142aw Koziara graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He is a Lublin-based artist, author of land art images, posters, and stage designs for theatre and concerts, including for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. He\u2019s also an interior designer for music clubs (Stodo\u0142a Club in Warsaw). He has worked with the band Voo Voo, creating visuals for their activities. His efforts have resulted in the publication of a book about the life and work of Lublin\u2019s artist- illustrator, Andrzej Kot. For the past several years, he has been cooperating with Workshops of Culture in Lublin, creating, among other things, the stage design for The Jagiellonian Fair. This year, he\u2019s also creating the art installation Life is beautiful (if you don\u2019t think about it for too long) in Grodzka street.

\nFishHens | exhibition of Ma\u0142gorzata “Ryba” Rybicka’s work<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ma\u0142gorzata \u201eRyba\u201d Rybicka is the artist that has created most of the posters of our festival, becoming a permanent part of its long history. Aside from the official posters of The Jagiellonian Fair, the exhibition presents their rough sketches and alternative versions, pieces at different stages of the creative process, the so-called \u201cdrafts\u201d. We can see concepts that came to her and sometimes transformed into official posters, and those that were abandoned and forgotten.

Eternity was born in a village – Zaharia Cu\u0219nir (1912-1993) <\/strong><\/p>\n

The exhibition Eternity was born in the village presents the Moldovan Photography Archive of Zaharia Cu\u0219nira (1912-1993). The collection of photos is a narrative about village life: changing seasons, important events, routines and various feelings hidden in the black earth of Moldovan villages lost in secluded valleys. Come and listen to the shy giggle of a bride, experience the togetherness of family celebrating with a red wine of their own production and witness the sorrow of the village filled with the salty smell of bread and tears during funerals. Listen to the thoughts of children born at the time and feel the crunchiness of dry sticks from yesteryear branches over which they all once walked. From now on, all these lives and moments will shine forever, framed by their rural alma mater.

Colours (out) of this World | exhibition of Aleksandra Bystry\u2019s work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aleksandra Bystry is an artist specialising in dyeing fabrics using dye plants. It\u2019s both her work and her passion. She has followed artistic education but nature is as close to her as art. Apart from dyeing, she designs and creates artistic and utility fabrics in her studio in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, and conducts classes all over the country.

\nThe Summer School of Herbalism Field Research Exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n

The exhibition focuses on people who have always used herbs in their everyday and professional lives. During this research trip, we visited Biruta Raglis (\u017begary, Podlasie Province) who told us about the application of herbs in traditional medicine. We also met Anastasia Sidor (Pu\u0144sk, Podlasie Province) who introduced us to herbs used in various annual and family rituals. We talked to Zbigniew Blizi\u0144ski (Gorajec, Podkarpackie Province), a herb gatherer knowledgeable about herbal medicine, herb cultivation and the use of herbs in the household. We visited Renata P\u0142osko\u0144 (Folwarki near Ciechan\u00f3w, Podkarpackie Province) who is passionate about herbs, especially their application in agriculture and horticulture. Finally, we talked to Danuta Radulska (Wasil\u00f3wka, Podlasie Province) who specialises in double weave and uses plants to dye wool. All protagonists of the exhibition talked to us about their experiences and knowledge they have gained over the years.

\nCosmic herbarium | exhibition<\/strong>
\nPlants have accompanied humans since they first appeared on earth. Plants were our first foods and served as raw materials for making clothes or building houses. Even though over the course of thousands of years, we have gone through many significant changes, we still depend on earth and its produce, both wild and cultivated. The exhibition \u201cCosmic herbarium\u201d is a tale about individual herbs and a recipe for their various uses. Texts about the role of plants in rituals, magic and love, but also in treatments and household, are illustrated with archival materials from the collections of the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, along with examples of herbs that can be found in the Lublin region. The exhibition has been organised by Workshops of Culture in Lublin and the National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw.<\/p>\n
